Should everyone be able to use your interface?

Here’s a great article over at Fuel Your Interface about why making everyone happy is a bad idea.  Author Jonathan Cutrell basically explains why finding a target audience should be the secondary, if not primary, goal when designing an interface.  He claims that it creates a more intimate connection with your audience and encourages a better experience.  I agree, and also see another value in designing for a small target group.  Others will be naturally attracted to joining a group by taking the time to understand unfamiliar design elements if they see how it cool it is to be “in the know.”
